Expatriate Best Practices Available and Ready-to-Go as Needed, Section by Section
We found the market was not offering an efficient and cost effective way to document expatriate best practices through an international employee handbook for globally mobile employees including: expatriates, third country nationals, key local nationals, inpats, and global travelers.
All insurance and service plans offered to international assignees have to coordinate with policy. Typically, insurance as it relates to international assignees was put in place on a piecemeal basis over many years, and sometimes after a problem or blow-up (such as expatriate group medical insurance put in place after a disaster associated with using the U.S. medical plan for expatriates abroad).
Expat policy manuals and expatriate employee handbooks may be old not address important areas that can shield global organizations from liability and risk.
Before the expatriate assignment, expatriates are typically handed some sort of "kit of information" that has evolved in an organization over time. However, having evolved as certain changes were made or new programs were put in place, the package typically lacks synergy and is rarely complete or even up-to-date.
We would grade what most companies are doing regarding expat policy and procedure a C- ...with 10% or less scoring an A.
The place to start is to have an informal conversation about how you are doing things today. We have prepared a series of questions we would like to ask you and the process takes 30 minutes. There is no charge for this service. All information collected about your existing expat policy would be kept strictly confidential and we even have a "one way non-disclosure" we can send you before you share any information with us for your protection.
Many clients find our "ready to go" expatriate web site portal the main reason to work with us. They have good expatriate policy, but don't communicate it well. Others lack both good policy and a way to communicate it? We would like to find out about your group.
Does your expatriate group medical plan talk to your medical evacuation program, your international security program and your other vendors?
One area away from the expatriate handbook where we find tremendous value for clients is the ability to find both gaps in coverage and overlap (superfluous insurance) when we are examining global policy and procedure. This is a "free byproduct" of the service we perform and it's included in our report to you. The process of building or completing a expatriate policy manual is very revealing and produces more value than the sum of it's parts.
